E4 provides visitors with access to a variety of volunteer programs to enhance their overall travel experience. Our volunteer programs cover three areas aimed at addressing educational, environmental, and social issues within local communities and geographic regions of Costa Rica. At E4 we offer volunteer opportunities that range from 1 hour to 1 year depending on the amount of time and effort you have to give.

E4 Volunteer Activities are 1-2 day projects focused on making a difference in a short period of time. An examples include beach cleanup, visiting a local school to help teach an English lesson and serve lunch, or passing through the sustainable community of El Sur for an eco project, cultural lesson, waterfall swim, and overnight stay. Emphasis on: vacation.

E4 Volunteer Programs are more extensive ranging from 1 week-1 year. These programs provide local transportation to the volunteer site, lodging for the duration of your stay, as well as orientation material for the respective program. Lodging ranges from homestays (popular) to basic cabins or bungalows. Emphasis on: volunteer

Our educational volunteer program is focused on local schools in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica but also includes opportunities to teach and assist in schools throughout the country. The majority of our volunteers go to the Hacienda School located in Jaco. Volunteers provide assistance with English lessons as well as computer/internet instruction. We also have an ongoing beautification project at the school which includes a future butterfly garden and painting of murals that volunteers may assist with.
Volunteers should be able to communicate in Spanish. Lodging is provided through homestays that E4 will arrange for volunteers.
Cost: $300-$325/week

E4's environmental volunteer programs focus on wildlife conservation efforts in Costa Rica. Turtles are the biggest draw for volunteers looking for a chance to give back to nature. This program is offered during turtle nesting season (March-Sept). E4 coordinates your trip with ASTOP, a local turtle conservation organization near Tortuguero. As a volunteer, you will work alongside our local turtle guides. On the nightly patrols, you will guard nesting turtles, learn to identify turtle tracks, count the number of eggs, record tag numbers and assist with relocating the eggs to our hatchery. You will also monitor the hatchery, as well as other nests left on the beach, & safeguard the hatchlings on their first journey to the ocean.
Cost: $250-$275/week

In our efforts to help combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children and minors, E4 provides coordination of volunteer programs with the Rahab Foundation. Rahab is located in San Jose where they provide outreach for women attempting to leave prostitution behind as a way of life. The foundation provides workshops and resources to help women adapt to the new lifestyle they have chosen. Rahab in Playa Jaco works specifically with children and families affected by sex trade and human trafficking. Events, home visits, and workshops provide an opportunity for outreach to these at-risk populations in an effort to heal and protect children and families from future atrocities.
Cost: $275/$325 per week
E4 seamlessly combines volunteer activities & programs with popular destinations & activities to create your ideal Volunteer Vacation. Volunteering can be fun, especially when traveling!
