E4 Travel believes that volunteerism is a key element in the overall model and plan for developing responsible tourism in Costa Rica. Our volunteer efforts are focused primarily on education, ecology, and building up tourism infrastructure in small communities recognized as potential sites for the implementation of successful models of sustainable community based/rural ecotourism.

E4 Travel allows you to incorporate volunteerism into your travel itinerary in such a way that it is enjoyable, meaningful, significant, and memorable. Do you enjoy teaching? building? assisting? E4 Travel offers the following volunteer opportunities for you participate in during your stay in Costa Rica.

Volunteer Vacations

This is the bread and butter of our responsible travel initiative. This program allows you to immerse yourself in Costa Rican culture and the Tico way of life as you spend a week volunteering in our host community of El Sur. You will work, eat, dance, and laugh with members of this small community of 40 nestled in a small mountain valley bordering Carara Biological Reserve. EcoSur, the grassroots organization in El Sur is currently working to establish sustainable model of community ecotourism in El Sur. Your volunteer efforts help them achieve this goal. The second part of your trip is spent touring multiple destinations in Costa Rica, including participation in ecotourism activities.

Volunteer Vacations allow you to donate your time and effort to projects that build community based/rural ecotourism projects, experience rural tourism, as well as mainstream tourism in Costa Rica during your stay. This unique variety provides awareness, perspective, and meaning for today's responsible traveler.

You may also choose to participate in short term volunteer projects incorporated into ecotourism activities. Options include teaching English lessons, serving lunch at a community soup kitchen, and helping out at wildlife refuges. Our programs are flexible, understanding that your vacation time is valuable. E4 Travel English/Spanish bilingual guides. Our guides will supplement your travel experience with communication, culture, organization, and efficiency.
Airport pickup at Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose/Alajuela. Private ground transport to all destinations in Costa Rica. Option for domestic air transport as well.
Lodging for each night of your stay. Budget, Standard, Luxury, and Eco/Green options for hotels (where available).
3 meals per day, breakfast, lunch and dinner, travel snacks as well. Meals are catered to your dietary requests when possible.
Entrance to all activities, parks, and hotel services specified in your itinerary; activity/park/local guides included.

Volunteer your time & resources: Add a volunteer element to your itinerary as part of our Travel Initiatives Program. Present purchased supplies to a local school, serve lunch, teach a short English lesson. Whether its two hours or two weeks of your time and effort, it is truly invaluable to our efforts to develop a model of responsible tourism in Costa Rica.
Lodging: Budget, Standard, Luxury and Eco/Green (where available). You can choose from our list of preferred hotels, hotels in our lodging directory, or a hotel you've read or heard about somewhere else. For all reservations booked at eco lodges and luxury hotels, E4 Travel will donate an extra 5% of profits to community projects and initiatives*.
Meals: Customize your meal reservations according to your diet, culinary interests, and travel itinerary. Options for vegetarian & organic, high protein & carbo, as well as fusion foods. Custom meal options depend on your choice of destination and group size. We make every effort to accommodate. Read or hear about a great restaurant not mentioned on our site? Tell us about it and we'll make sure you have a table for 2...or more waiting for you upon arrival!
Guides: E4 Travel provides a bilingual (English/Spanish) guide for each group. Additional guides can be requested or you may choose to travel without an E4 Guide (activity, park, and local guides still included) You may also sponsor a local youth guide through our tourism education travel initiative.
Transportation: Standard trips provide private ground transportation to all destinations in your itinerary, however you may opt to travel by semi-private shuttle, car, domestic air, or public transportation depending on your personal preference and budget.

The total cost of your trip is dependant on the options for lodging, transportation, activities, destinations, and meals, you select according to your length of stay and budget. As a guide we offer the following rough breakdown of trip and tour prices:

Budget Trips: $550-$1,000
Economy Trips: $1,000-$1,750
Luxury Trips: $1,750-$3,000+

Prices are listed per person based on double occupancy, 7 days/6 nights.
