Tourism in Costa Rica, like any other destination, is dependent on the quality of education, availability of natural resources, and state of local tourism economies. Education provides English which is essential to any person living in Costa Rica seeking employment in the tourism industry. Ecological efforts provide conservation and protection of natural resources, our beaches, rivers , rainforests, volcanos, and wildlife. Rapid consumption and destruction of these resources and natural wonders will leave Costa Rica without tourist attractions as well us cost us our home.
E4 Travel is also concerned with the socio economic conditions of small communities and the effect that the growth of tourism has on their future. There are many opportunities for rural communities that once flourished under an agriculture based economy to re establish economic stability and sustainability through ecotourism. E4 Travel Initiatives provide aid and assistance to these communities, working with them to organize and implement their own model of responsible ecotourism. This model effectively creates jobs, promotes local conservation efforts, and provides direct funding for the community to invest in improvements to their local schools. As this model is replicated it may serve to address the needs of education, conservation, economics, and ecotourism to improve the quality of life for visitors and residents in local communities throughout Costa Rica targeted for tourism development.
Travel for Change....
E4 Travel has incorporated what we like to call Travel Initiatives into our trips and tours. These initiatives are opportunities for travelers to participate in projects that E4 Initiatives & E4 Travel have identified as significant efforts that promote the growth of responsible tourism. Travel Initiatives include volunteering, fund-raising, donating, and responsible investment. The objective of these initiatives is to help strengthen education, ecology, and the economy which serve as a basis for our responsible model of tourism. At the same time, participants are able to significantly reduce the negative impact of their travel on the environment and local economies.
Traveling with E4 gives you the opportunity to add as many Travel Initiatives as you'd like to your itinerary. We understand that your travel time is valuable, and offer opportunities to volunteer for as little as one hour, or as long as a year. We appreciate every minute of your time and effort that you are able to donate to these important causes. Taking an hour or two of your trip to see faces of smiling children, as you present supplies to their school or teach a short English lesson before serving lunch, can sometimes make the difference between a great vacation and a meaningful travel experience.
You may also choose to sponsor one of our initiatives through a fund-raising project at your school or place of employment. In this case E4 Travel ensures that you see your efforts at work as we arrange for travelers to present donations of items or funds to local schools, orphanages, and communities, in person, as part of your itinerary. You will also be presented with a certificate recognizing your contribution to the giving branch of E4 Initiatives and the respective recipient of your donation.
Finally, E4 Travel provides a unique opportunity for investors to get involved and make a contribution to the development of responsible tourism. Our Eco Real Estate Tours expose traveling investors to areas of Costa Rica where planning and funding is in place for development, and opportunity exists for the introduction of profitable, responsible business models related to tourism.

One way E4 is able to contribute its own model of responsible tourism is through donations to projects that we have either initiated or are currently participating in. Simply traveling booking a trip with E4 ensures that 5% of our profit goes directly to functional and effective programs focused on education, ecology, and economics in Costa Rica. We appreciate your contribution through your participation and support for E4 products and services. Travel Initiatives allow you to get involved directly in these programs, going above and beyond to help us, help others.
Upon first glance a few hours of volunteer work or a few dollars towards a donation may seem insignificant. However, when considering travel as a weight that can tip the "scales" or "balance" of the ecosystem one way or the other, one is able to see the significance of their contribution. Everything from a piece of trash, to a gallon of water, a pen, a pencil, or a book, all these things have two extremes. Trash can pollute or be recycled, water can be clean or dirty, children can be with or without school supplies. At E4 we believe that the difference between these two extremes is often times a simple voluntary action or set of actions that work to leave a positive lasting impact on particular destination or community. This volunatry act or set of actions is what we refer to as a Travel Initiative.
