The following is a list of needs that have been identified throughout our programs and projects that we have initiated or currently support. This list includes items and materials that can be purchased and mailed from your location or purchased through E4 after making a cash donation specifying exactly how you would like to see your donation put to use. La Escuela Hacienda Jaco Project (Phase I) - last update - March 20th, 2007
- Crossing Guard & Night Watch (12 hr. security: $500-$600/month)
- Daily light breakfast & complete lunch for each student
- Student supplies: uniforms (purchased here), backpacks, pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, calculators.
- Teacher supplies: chalk, white paper, construction paper, crayons, markers, paint, office supplies (staples, paperclips, folders)
- Classroom Resources: 6th Grade Textbooks - 5 books are needed. Each textbook costs $20
- 50 meters of mesh material for Butterfly Garden - $4/meter
- Books, books, books! - new, used, bilingual, picture dictionaries, & 1st grade reading level books for our library project. A wishlist for books can be found here.
- Lodging, food, & transportation for our artist volunteering her time and efforts to our mural beautification project - $30-50/day (6-7 days total)
- Art materials - paint (type to be determined), brushes, and any other materials needed to complete the mural project - $200-$300.
- Materials and labor for the construction of a small security shed (preferably concrete) where valuables in the school can be stored overnight without fear of break-in or theft. (temporary solution until a 24 hr. guard can be provided)
- Volunteers! This project will never near completion without the help of volunteers whether they are working on specific projects (painting, renovation, butterfly garden etc) or stopping by to teach English lessons or serve a special lunch.
We present real needs because we are committed to using the resources provided by generous donors to meet these needs in an effort to bring about growth, expansion, and effective change through the programs we seek support for.
We appreciate donations of cash, but prefer that you send materials when possible. We believe in donations with direction and feel that any contribution carries additional meaning when the donor and beneficiary have a clear understanding of the purpose, objective, and potential for every donation, great or small. We are dedicated to bringing you frequent updates informing you of the progress being made on the project you choose to support through our newsletters.
