Sustainable Development - This is our newest project designed to curb the negative environmental, economic, and social impacts caused by a rapidly growing real estate market, with the potential to spiral out of control.
goals & objectives:
- contribute 15% of all real estate commissions, ad revenue, and rental referrals to rainforest reforestation projects through FONAFIFO.
- provide resources for eco friendly investors interested in sustainable development through construction/purchase of eco-lodging and private rainforest/wildlife reserves.
- participate in the planning, funding, and construction of one sustainable elementary school and one sustainable orphanage by the year 2021.
La Escuela Hacienda Project - E4 works closely with this small elementary school in the beach town of Jaco to bring resources and renovation to faculty, staff, and students in need.

- sustainable tourism projects: organic garden, sustainable lodging, park/trail maintenance, eco-attractions/low-impact activities (IBIS application)
- provide opportunities for youth from El Sur to participate as "guides in training" on E4 trips and tours

At E4 our goal is to offset 100% of carbon emissions that result from our travel products and services. This includes international flights, domestic transportation, and lodging (electricity use).
Our first step towards meeting this goal is our pledge to offset all emissions for travelers participating in any of our guided tours, and some of our self guided tours.
For the remainder of our self guided tours and excursions, we are committed to offsetting domestic transportation and lodging emissions and provide travelers with the option of contributing to the offset of their international flight ($5-$15 for US flights)
We offset carbon emissions with investments in Environmental Services Certificates (ESC's), offered by FONAFIFO here in Costa Rica. FONAFIFO uses this investment to fund projects and programs devoted to rainforest preservation and reforestation.
