Sustainable Vacations featuring Osa Peninsula: Eco-Education (guided), Eco-Adventure (guided), Sustainable Winter Break 08, Responsible Luxury (self-guided)

Corcovado offers a tremendous amount of biodiversity for visitors as well as opportunities to see many endangered species including squirrel monkeys, giant anteater, Baird's Tapir, jaguars and scarlet macaws. There are four ranger stations that connect the main trails through the park. The best opportunities for viewing wildlife occur around Sirena Ranger station, an ideal place to stay a night or two. We recommend traveling with a local guide, especially along the long, but rewarding trek between San Pedrillo Station and Sirena where three river crossings are impassable at high tide (beware of crocs and bull sharks that come to feed...that's why we suggest a guide!) The wildlife is wild, the best of the best that Costa Rica has to offer. Don't feed the animals, stay on the trails, and respect the environment during your stay here.
Drake's Bay is home to 25 species of dolphins and whales that pass through on their migrations throughout the year. Excellent opportunities for whale and dolphin watching. Sportfishing (the bay holds 40 fishing records) is also available in the area although we don't recommend the activity for sustainable travelers (yes, even catch and release impacts this super sensitive ecosystem) Cano Island located just outside the bay is the ideal spot for snorkeling and diving for visitors to this area. There are too many species of fish to count, 15 species of coral as well as endangered species like the Panulirus lobster and giant conch.
This 50 hectare organic farm is run by a family of the Guaymi indigenous group. The highlight of the farm is the production of chocolate demonstrated through a great tour that wild leave chocolate lovers satisfied or craving for more [chocolate!] Am excellent choice for travelers seeking sustainable, low-impact activities.
Beachfront ecolodge hotel with perfect access to the southwest entrance to Corcovado. Spacious tents are private with access to beautiful outside bathrooms. Solar power is used in the restaurant. The setting here is spectacular as you can hang out by the beach in a hammock, explore the 30 hectare property in search of abundant wildlife, or enjoy one of many tours offered by the hotel who cooridinates with local guides.

The small family owned and operated lodge (the owners are a Tico and Swiss couple) is condusive to releasing the pent-up stress of modern life and soaking up the tropical ambiance. The cabins and owners' house are perched atop a steep ridge right above a small private cove, with expansive views of the Pacific and the coastline north of Drake Bay. Careful landscaping highlights the natural setting. Electricity is available in all the rooms through noiseless solar panels and a water-driven turbine. Nice proximity to the northwest entrance to the park (through Drake's Bay)

Responsible eco-luxury at its best. This top of the line wilderness resort is one of 3 hotels in Costa Rica to achieve level 5 sustainability certification through the Board of Tourism. Spacious bungalows feature garden showers and boast spectacular ocean views from private balconies. The lodge sits on a 400 acre protected reserve with extensive trails for wildlife seekers. Swimming, snorkeling, and surfing is available close by as well. Extreme high end for prices but its worth it for travelers seeking sustainable luxury options on Osa Peninsula. Inquire about multi-day honeymoon and family packages that include meals, transportation, and tours.
