This region includes two of Costa Rica's most popular destinations in Monteverde and Arenal. The area as a whole boasts a variety of ecosystems from cloud forest in Monteverde to the mighty Arenal Volcano and lush lowland rainforest to the north and east. Nature enthusiasts, especially bird watchers may want to spend some additional time exploring Cano Negro to the north and remote areas heading east to Sarapiqui.

Monteverde Cloud Forest
Get there before the park opens at 10am to avoid waiting after 160 person limit. Also try Santa Elena Reserve for less traffic!
Cano Negro Wildlife Reserve
Excellent opportunities to spot wildlife: white-faced, spider, and howler monkeys! Far north. Access from Arenal/La Fortuna.
