At E4 Initiatives we feel it is our responsibility to give back to the people of Costa Rica. The natural wonders and tourist attractions that we advertise through our site are really homes for close to 4 million people living here. Essentially the people give us permission to walk through and enjoy their stunning "backyards".
Our model of responsible tourism provides many opportunities for individuals to give back to the people of Costa Rica, specifically the children of Costa Rica through donations of items and funds. We believe that donations should have direction in order to provide meaning and significance for both donor and recipient. For this reason we offer the following options when making a donation to the Giving Branch of E4 Initiatives:
Donation of Items: We have supplied a list of items that represent various needs across programs and projects supported by E4 Initiatives. Currently this list focuses on items related to Education. School supplies including backpacks, pens, pencils, art supplies, notebooks, etc are always in need. We are currently working with private mail services to arrange reduced or free shipping charges for donated items. Once we receive your donation, we take responsibility for delivering the items to their final destination. We provide updates via public and private newsletters full of multimedia that allow you to see your donations being put to use!
Travelers may also arrange to bring items with them or purchase them during their stay, and then donate them in person during a visit to a local school through E4 Travel's Initiative Program.
Donation of Funds: The Giving Branch of E4 Initiatives currently accepts donations in the form of cash, personal or agency check. You may also make a donation through a bank wire or transfer of funds. Each donation should be accompanied with your wishes for the final destination of your contribution. You have the option of choosing from one of our initiative areas: education, ecology, economy, and ecotourism. Or, you may choose to direct your funds to a specific program or project that you've read about on our site. If you want your donation to go towards the purchase of school uniforms in a particular school in Costa Rica, you are entitled to this decision and E4 will gladly help facilitate this process.
With each donation of items or funds to the Giving Branch of E4 Initiatives you will receive the following:
- A certificate from E4 Initiatives recognizing your donation, the recipient, and the date received. The certificate will be signed by E4 as well as the organization receiving the donation.
- Subscription to our monthly newsletter highlighting updates to current programs and projects. A personal newsletter mailed every 6 months providing an update on the program or project that you supported. Electronic newsletters include photos as well as links to audio and video that are relevant to the E4 programs and projects you want to hear about.
- Opportunities to travel at reduced rates or for free through the E4 Donor's Club.
E4 is currently working to establish an official non-profit foundation to receive and distribute donations, acting as a separate, independent entity to E4 Initiatives, S.A. This process includes legal and financial obstacles that must be cleared before the foundation is made official. Our goal is to have the E4 Foundation established by July 2007. Until then we are legally able to accept contributions as well as make private donations through the Giving Branch of E4 Initiatives. All records of donations and contributions made between now and the time of the foundation's establishment will be diligently recorded, saved, and transferred to the foundation's new financial records when available.
E4 is open to any inquiry regarding the management of donations. We approach this aspect of our work with integrity and responsibility. We are accountable for our actions and decisions with regard to charity and management of private contributions and are confident that any responsible and respectful inquiry into our work will reveal this. Our effort is real, your donations are real, and the smiling faces of people we are able to reach through contributions like yours are real. Please note: 100% of all donations made to the Giving Branch of E4 Initiatives are redirected to various programs and projects agreed on by E4 and donors. E4 Initiatives donates 5-15% of all profits and earnings to the E4 Giving Branch.
