The Central Pacific region is the smallest of the six regions but still has plenty to offer for visitors. Manuel Antonio National Park is the biggest draw in the region. Playa Hermosa, located 5 minutes from Jaco, has some of Costa Rica's most consistent waves on this world class break. It seems like the birds (along with all the other animals) have gone south to Baru, Dominical, & Uvita. Wildlife enthusiasts should head in that direction.

The Rundown

the good: surf tourism has always been and remains strong. Manuel Antonio National Park boasts Ecological Blue Flags for its emmaculate beaches and provides excellent opportunities to see monkeys. Uvita.

the bad: Another case of poorly planned and managed development, this time in Jaco. Its hard to see luxury condos going up with potholes and prostitutes in the street.

the beautiful: the endangered titi monkey, Bahia Ballena.
